As pet travel grows, extended-stay Hilton hotels will become 100% pet-friendly by 2022


In a growing travel trend, people are more likely to take the road with their pets. Two Hilton extended-stay brands, Homewood Suites by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton, are taking note and introducing new pet-friendly amenities for their four-legged guests.

By 2022, Hilton will have nearly 1,000 extended stay properties in its portfolio with the Homewood Suites brand joining sister Home2 Suites to become 100% pet-friendly. This means that hotels will allow pets in guest rooms as well as in many public areas. Plus, by next year, the two brands will harmonize their pet fees to $ 50 per stay across the North American portfolio.

A pilot program is also underway offering free digital assistance with pet experts at select hotels. Customers in five cities that are part of Mars Petcare’s BETTER CITIES FOR PETS ™ program (including Miami, Nashville, and Phoenix among others) can connect with company experts for “wellness and health questions.” behavior ”of pets that will make the trip to a new place more comfortable.

The program is helping cities become more pet friendly, and its new Hilton partnership is bringing that same concept to the hotels themselves. Extended-stay hotels and vacation rental properties are proving particularly popular with travelers looking to work remotely rather than commuting to a crowded office. Taking pets helps make traveling, especially for long periods of time, more relaxing for people.

According to Hilton, a survey by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) found that nearly 20% of American households have welcomed a new pet since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. And new data from a KRC Research survey shows that 85% of pet owners plan to travel within the next year. Of those same pet owners, 65% plan to bring their pets on their travels. Hilton’s extended stay brands seek to meet the demand for remote work, long road trips, and travel with pets with one product.

Hotels will be able to provide local information on area parks, pet-friendly restaurants, pet shops and 24-hour veterinary services. Many of its extended stay hotels offer dog treats and water bowls.
