Oscar Oliver, 13, from Barrie, recently returned from Poland, where he packed and distributed 350 new backpacks full of supplies, toys, games and gifts to Ukrainian war refugee children at a special event “Kids for Kids”. at the Warsaw Zoo.

While Oscar was in Poland, he had the great honor of being invited, as a VIP, to the Canadian Embassy in Warsaw to meet the Embassy team and present and discuss his “Buy Now” campaign. a backpack “.

Oscar has another mission planned for this year. It will return to Poland in November to pack the next batch of 600 backpacks, educational items, various gifts and sensory toys for sick children, which are being shipped by sea freight, and deliver them to children in refugee centers across the country. country.

This will bring Oscar to a total of 1,342 filled backpacks. His original goal when he launched his ‘Buy a Backpack’ campaign six months ago was 200. Small seeds, big flowers can grow.

“There are now nearly four million refugees in Poland and many of them are children. They are scared and many are sick and disabled. I quickly realized that even an item as small as a backpack with small personal gifts can mean a lot to others in need and my ‘Kids for Kids’ attitude towards life really works,” said Oscar.

“These backpacks and gifts might be the one Christmas gift kids can look forward to this year,” he said.

Oscar is currently fundraising to cover the costs of shipping one ton of supplies to Poland, the costs of logistics, transport and distribution in Poland, and the costs of his trip to Poland with his guardian. To support Oscar, you can visit his website’s donation page at www.oscaroliver.org.
