Zelenskyy confirms ceasefire in two Ukrainian cities, but urges those who can to ‘stay and fight’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that humanitarian corridors are in place to allow people from Mariupol and Volnovakha to flee.

However, he said those who can should “keep fighting”.

In a speech, Mr Zelenskyy said: “We managed to get an agreement to provide assistance to the cities of Ukraine which are in the worst and worst situation, Mariupol and Volnovakha, to save children, women and the elderly To provide medicine and food to those staying in these places.

“Those who wish to leave these places should be able to do so now using the humanitarian corridor, but those who can should continue to fight.

“We are doing everything we can on our side to make this agreement work, concerning the humanitarian corridors and we will see if we can go even further in our negotiations with Russia.”

Mr Zelenskyy used his address to speak directly to the United States, asking “what more is needed” to convince Joe Biden to implement a no-fly zone. He claimed that 74% of Americans agree this is necessary.

He also hailed the efforts of Poland, which has taken in more than 600,000 refugees since Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24.
