Bride and groom face canceled wedding after Tui Axes robbery

A bride-to-be may have to cancel her wedding in Cyprus and another woman says she has £6,000 in her pocket for tickets to Sunday’s Grand Prix in Monaco after Tui and easyJet canceled their flights.

Dozens of holidaymakers have faced travel chaos after Tui cut a “small number” of flights and easyJet said it would cut more than 200 over the next 10 days.

Lisa Trenchard has said her daughter Seren Rounds, a primary school teacher, and her fiancé, electrician Adam Howells, are set to postpone their wedding after their flight to Cyprus was cancelled.

Ms Rounds, 27, and Mr Howells, 29, from Caerleon, South Wales, have been planning their big day since 2020 but may be forced to postpone it after Tui canceled their flight to Paphos.

Ms Trenchard said 34 guests were due to leave Bristol on Saturday, with 11 guests already in Cyprus, but their 1.30pm outbound flight was first delayed and then cancelled.

She said the wedding is booked for Thursday June 2 but they have a date at the town hall on Monday.

She said there was now “no way” to find flights for the 34 guests, so the wedding was “ruined”.

Ms Trenchard, 55, health visits manager at Caerleon, said: ‘We have families with babies and a devastated bride and groom.

She added: “Absolutely, I blame Tui, not necessarily for the initial problem, but their lack of visibility and compassion, and the way they chose the easy option to cancel.”

Mother-of-one Sunita Ramjee, 50, from Swansea, Wales, said she spent £6,000 on tickets to take her 19-year-old daughter and brother to the Monaco Grand Prix for her 40 year anniversary gift.

They were due to fly from London Gatwick to Nice on Friday, but the flight was delayed and then canceled while they were at the airport.

She says there were no alternative flights available due to the Grand Prix and Champions League final in Paris on Saturday.

Ms Ramjee said: “We had Grand Prix tickets and now easyJet has canceled my flight and I’m not going to get a refund (for the Formula 1 tickets).

“I’m really disappointed with how it was handled. No one helped us try to find alternative flights or make hotel reservations.

“It’s something my daughter has been looking forward to since we moved to the UK, it was my brother’s 40th birthday present.”

Michele Farmer, 56, tweeted: “Our easyJet flight to Naples at 5.30pm, yes in less than an hour has been cancelled.

“We were sent through baggage claim with luggage dumped on the ground which is now outside Bristol Airport.

“No help. Poor on every level.

She was supposed to be taking her daughter Madeleine on a half-term holiday which they had booked for the same week in 2020.

A Tui spokesperson said: “We apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers who have experienced flight delays or flight cancellations.

“Delays have been caused due to a combination of factors and we are doing everything we can to keep customers informed, and will provide refreshments and, where appropriate, provide hotel accommodation.

“Where we have made the difficult decision to cancel a small number of flights, customers will receive a full refund within 14 days and we will contact them directly to help them try to find alternative holidays.”

An easyJet spokesperson said: “We have made the decision to cancel in advance approximately 24 Gatwick flights per day from May 28 until June 6.

“We apologize for the late notice of some of these cancellations and the inconvenience caused to customers booked on these flights, but believe this is necessary to provide reliable service during this busy time.”
