Vice President Yemi Osinbajo promised 7,000 Niger State delegates free accommodation and food during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary in Abuja.
The vice president’s special assistant Babafemi Ojudu made the announcement yesterday in Minna, Niger State, before his director was ushered by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to a hall in the government house where Osinbajo interacted with delegates.
He asked reporters out, saying his boss would not be able to answer candidly some questions that would be asked by delegates if reporters were present.
Addressing delegates, he said, “I would like to inform you that coming to Abuja, you have no fear. Those of us who are his friends and associates have made hotel rooms available to you. Before you leave here, we’ll tell you which hotel you’ll be staying at.
“Your food at the hotel will be done by us. Then there will be hotel buses to take you from the hotel to the conference venue. We will have an office at the hotel that will take care of of your needs.
“Like I said, he wants to associate with you; he won’t let you suffer. We want you to come to Abuja and do this mission and also have fun.
He also said the vice president would be in each of the hotels where the delegates were staying to speak to them and solicit their votes.
There have been insinuations that the delegates’ account numbers were compiled by a group appointed by Osinbajo’s campaign team before he arrived. But our correspondent could not establish how much should be given to each of the delegates.
