NILES – David E. Calderone Jr., 71, of Niles, died Saturday, September 17, 2022 at The Valley Hospice House in Poland.

He was born on July 9, 1951 in Warren, son of David E. and Florence Marsico Calderone Sr.

David was a 1969 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, attended and played football for Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, for a year, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Youngstown State University in 1978.

He was employed as a laborer and foreman at Republic and Taylor Steel from 1970 to 2008, then as a school bus driver for the Niles City School District from 2009 to 2020.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, the San Filippo Neri Lodge, and the United Steel Workers of America. He enjoyed gardening, making wine, spending time with his family, going to Nikki’s house with his friends, and celebrating all of Christmas, especially Christmas Eve with the Seven Fishes. Dave was also a sports enthusiast who cheered on his favorite teams, the Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankees.

His wife Cheryl Jordan Calderone, whom he married on August 13, 1983, died on January 3, 2017.

He will be sadly missed by his two sons, Christopher Calderone and Michael Calderone, with whom he makes his home; one brother, Nicholas Calderone and his wife, Cheryl, of Pataskala, Ohio; his niece and goddaughter, Gabrielle Gale and her husband, Tyson; and many cousins ​​and family members.

His parents predeceased him.

Friends can call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will lead prayers at 6:30 p.m. A Christian Burial Mass will be held Thursday at 10 o ‘clock. , Sept. 22, 2022, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, preceded by a prayer service at 9:30 a.m., at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
