Heathrow Airport: The Magnificent Polish Christmas Market Cheaper To Visit Than Winter Wonderland

0

Continental Europe is home to some of the best Christmas markets in the world.

But, after a rough year of worrying about money, you might think that a Christmas vacation would be more affordable than flying to one of the most famous seasonal spots in the world – you’d be wrong.

Although they’re right on our doorstep, a night in London and a trip to winter wonderland will likely cost more than an overseas excursion.

When you include travel and the cost of a hotel stay, you are better off going to Krakow, Poland than staying in the UK.

However, it will take a bit of effort.

Here’s what you need to know:

How much does a Christmas trip to Krakow cost?

An average night in London costs £ 162. That’s before you factor in transportation in the Big Smoke, the inevitable congestion charges, or the price of a pint.

For a similar price, you could ditch the well-known capital and head to a completely new place – Krakow.

For just £ 152 you could enjoy a trip to a beautiful Polish city, full of culture and beautiful buildings.

The price includes a hotel stay and the cost of flights – what more could you ask for?

Christmas offers Heathrow-Krakow

According to Skyscanner, the best deal is available on December 1, marking the perfect way to kick off Advent.

The most affordable flights appear to be via Lufthansa or LOT Polish Airlines, which depart from Heathrow Airport.

You may need to make a short transfer via Munich, but the journey should still take under four hours in total.

Once you arrive at Katowice Airport, you only have a short train ride to the city. The Old Town Market is easy to find on arrival in Krakow.

Remember to act quickly if you’re interested, however – Skyscanner deals don’t tend to last very long.

Nonetheless, it is clear that a trip to Krakow offers good value for money compared to the often sky-high prices in London.

When are the Krakow Christmas markets held?

The market opens its doors during the last week of November.

This year, the Central Square Market kicks off on November 6 and won’t close until January 2 – so you have plenty of time to take a trip.

The market takes place in the middle of the old town, under the glittering clock tower.

The wooden stalls sell a range of decorations, gifts, toys and candy, as well as delicious hot food and mulled wine at the bucket load.

What else to do in Krakow?

Walking tours are a staple tourist attraction in Krakow – in most cases, you just pay what you think your hard-working guide deserves.

When it comes to hearty winter food, Poland has it in spades. After a cold day exploring the city, enjoy hot soups, broths, and meat dishes to warm you up again.
