IHG plans to expand into Northern Europe


IHG Hotels & Resorts plans to expand its presence in Northern Europe through an expanded partnership with hotel operator Tristar GmbH.

This expanded agreement between the companies will see the opening of 60 hotels in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and Italy by 2035.

Tristar GmbH specializes in the operation of branded hotels in German-speaking DACH countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). It should already open four Holiday Inn Express hotels, including an establishment at Düsseldorf airport, in this region during 2022, as well as a Hotel Indigo in Vienna this year.

The DACH region continues to be a “key strategic market” for IHG, with 88 hotels currently open in Germany and 27 properties under development, including those operated by Tristar GmbH.

There are also 17 hotels across IHG’s brands currently open in Austria and Switzerland with six properties in the pipeline. IHG said the new agreement with Tristar GmbH “extends the growth ambition to Italy and Poland”.
