Luis Daniel Garcia invites you to the artisan experience – L’Orient

Luis Daniel Garcia, General Manager of The Orient Hotel Jakarta, is delighted to welcome you for an unforgettable stay at this newly opened hotel.

Located in Sudirman, in central Jakarta, The Orient is an authentic, artistic, inspiring and humbly luxurious place to stay, dine and socialize.

Luis invites you to discover this truly unique hotel and its next festivities worthy of spending the end of 2021.

Hi Louis! We would love to know more about your story.

I left Spain in 1999 to pursue an international career in the hospitality industry while completing my Bachelor of Honors in Hospitality Management. I worked in the USA and in Europe, then in Southeast Asia; Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia over the past seven years. Throughout my career I have worked in different divisions including front office, food and beverage and then higher positions as hotel manager and general manager.

I have traveled frequently to Jakarta for a long time and have lived in South East Asia for years. Adjusting to my life in Jakarta was very easy nonetheless, however, you discover new things that the city can offer every day. It is always a good idea to embrace the culture and get involved in all aspects of the daily life of Indonesians, to experience the great diversity of food, textiles and ornamental products, as well as to capture and memorize the common bahasa indonesia words that will help you every day.

As the General Manager of The Orient Hotel Jakarta, can you tell us more about this dynamic, recently opened hotel?

Our goal is to educate people about Indonesian culture through their experience in the Orient. It’s more than just a hotel stay; we pride ourselves on being different and we incorporate craftsmanship in every detail as much as possible.

We are a luxury boutique hotel where each room has its own unique character and perks, from the hand painted door, batik headboards, carved wardrobes, to our handwritten surprise in the room. We strive to give as much personal touch as possible to push the boundaries of the concept of conventional hospitality. Another thing we want to highlight is that we bring a nostalgic feeling for a bygone era when traveling was still a luxury few could afford.

Based on the concept of the property, what are the differences found here compared to other hotels in the area?

I am confident to say that we are the most Indonesian hotel compared to others and the most artisanal. There is no hotel in Jakarta that has as many arts and crafts as we do.

Is it difficult to realize the concept of the hotel in 2021?
The pandemic has impacted the hospitality industry in ways that had not been anticipated, especially for such a long time. Now, with the start of the recovery in our industry, I am very sure that our hotel concept will receive a positive response from the market.

One of the main challenges was getting all the custom pieces for the hotel by working with creative artisans to be able to execute Bill Bensley’s concept and bring it to life. It is the first time that he has not been able to come and see his creation straight away, all framed through numerous zoom calls.

The interior of the hotel is strongly inspired by Javanese and Balinese cultures, from the furniture and works of art chosen to the small details. Please describe it in three words.

Original, artisanal and thoughtful.

Make a list of things to do for Orient Jakarta hotel guests.

To be curious. Every corner has stories to tell. Discover our hotel like a little child does. It is the ideal place to discover and learn more about Indonesia. Try all the food and drink. Socialize because it is the melting pot of creative minds.

What do you think is most attractive about the Orient Hotel Jakarta?

In addition to our strategic location, we have a strong creative design concept that cannot be found anywhere else.

What has the Orient Hotel Jakarta prepared for this festive season?

We are always aware that we must continue to prioritize the safety of all. At the same time, we want our guests to enjoy what they missed last year; bring joy, hope and new aspirations. Having said that, we have the opportunity to do a little more this year. So there will be plenty of offers from the hotel itself as well as from Caspar this holiday season.

Several special packages are in the works, covering Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve combined with hotel accommodation. Guests can enjoy it, whether with family or friends. Reservations are welcome from December 1 to 31, 2021. The two special packages will only be available on December 24-25 and 31.

What will your holiday season be like?

I made the most of last year’s celebrations under the circumstances of the time, but it was different. I will obviously be eager to celebrate; meet up with friends, sit down and have dinner together. I am also delighted to be a part of this hotel, I can help ensure a truly festive experience for our guests as well as everyone in Jakarta to have a wonderful time.
