Middlesbrough fan arrested for leaving 11-year-old in hotel room to go out drinking after FA Cup win | UK News

A Middlesborough fan has been arrested after leaving his 11-year-old son alone in a hotel room in Manchester as he went out drinking to celebrate the team’s upset FA Cup victory.

Greater Manchester Police said they received a call about the boy in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“We cared for the child with an unhappy mother who was descended from [the North East] to get it back,” the force’s local Twitter account said.

Around 9,500 away supporters watched as their side eliminated the home side from the FA Cup in a penalty shootout on Friday after a 1-1 draw.

Middlesborough are seventh in the Championship table, a division below Manchester United, who are currently fourth in the Premier League.

Police tweeted: “A Boro fan was arrested for child neglect last night, after he chose to leave his 11-year-old at the hotel after the game while on his way to town to celebrate his victory by drinking.”

A spokeswoman for the force added: “In the early hours of Saturday 5th February 2022, police received a report of concern for the welfare of a child.

“Inquiries have established that an 11-year-old boy was sleeping alone in a hotel room in Trafford.

“A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. He remains in custody for questioning.”
