More than 13,000 hotel rooms expected to be added in 2022

Doha: Qatar’s hospitality sector will be in the global spotlight with the FIFA World Cup in a few months. The hospitality sector is expected to see the addition of more than 13,000 hotel rooms and hotel apartments with many new hotels opening in the current year, according to a report by Valustrat, a real estate consulting company.

Companies are racing to complete hotel projects as soon as possible to be ready before the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which is due to start on November 21.

“According to research by ValuStrat, the stock of hotels and hotel apartments has exceeded 30,000 keys. The pipeline for 2022 has been adjusted upwards to 13,300 keys,” the report noted.

An estimated 1,980 keys from eight home properties were added over the past year. Steigenberger Hotel Doha (with 206 rooms) and Zulal Wellness Resort (with 180 rooms) were unveiled in the last quarter of 2021.

Qatar’s hotel sector has seen a strong rebound, helped by measures taken by government authorities to limit the spread of COVID-19. This has prompted many hotel companies to expand their business and launch new prosperity.

Recruitment is in full swing for new hotels due to open this year. The average occupancy of hotels and hotel apartments, excluding properties used for quarantine, was 64% in November 2021, up 11% on average per year.

The NH Collection Doha Oasis Hotel & Beach Club is scheduled to open in mid-2022 and will be the first NH Collection property in the world to feature a beach club. This will be the first NH collection to be launched outside of the brand’s traditional business areas in Europe and America.

The hotel is currently in the final stages of development and is located in the Ras Abu Abboud area along the east coast of Doha, midway between the city center and Hamad International.

The old Oasis Hotel, from which the new property takes its name, stood in the same location and was Doha’s first hotel when it opened in the 1950s.

The completely revamped hotel will have a total of 300 rooms, divided into a mix of superior and deluxe rooms and more than 50 suites, all with a design that combines modern and classic elegance.

The suites will include six 156 square meter Emiri Suites, a 193 square meter Presidential Suite and an impressive split-level Royal Suite, offering 332 square meters of luxurious space.
