Netherlands vs Poland Betting Overview

WagerTalk football handicapper Nick Borrman shares his thoughts on Saturday’s clash between the Netherlands and Poland in the UEFA Nations League. Poland are looking to bounce back from a 6-1 loss to Belgium, while the Netherlands beat that same Belgian side 4-1 earlier this week.

Netherlands vs Poland analysis

In the third round of the UEFA Nations League, Poland will travel to the Netherlands. The Netherlands lead the group with two wins over Belgium and Wales while Poland sit third in the standings, level with Belgium on three points, with a win over Wales and a defeat against Belgium. The Netherlands are heavy favorites to claim three wins from three games as the teams face off on Saturday afternoon.

Poland desperate for a rebound

Poland come into this game after an embarrassing 6-1 loss to Belgium as the No.1-ranked Red Devils circled around them. This match was certainly a disappointment after Poland were able to come back against Wales in their first game to win 2-1.

However, this type of defeat is extremely rare for this Polish side as it was their first defeat by more than one goal since the last edition of the Nations League tournament, losing to Italy 2-0 in 2020. .

They had gone 20 consecutive matches without losing by two or more goals, including their entire World Cup qualifying group, the Euro 2020 tournament and three friendlies. Going back even further, Poland have only two defeats by more than one goal since the World Cup in 2018, a span of 42 games. This run included games against some of the best teams in the world in England twice, Italy four times, Spain, Portugal and that same Dutch side twice.

Poland are led by one of the best scorers on the planet in Robert Lewandowski and they have a very solid backline, although you might be quick to look past that because of their last performance, but it’s was clearly an anomaly. This match was only the second time in their last 39 games in which they allowed more than one goal, which is important as it is rare for Poland to be kept off the scoreboard and therefore a big reason why they don’t lose by multiple goals very often. .

High-flying Dutch

The Netherlands couldn’t be happier with their start to this third edition of the Nations League as they scored six goals in their two wins, including beating No.1-seeded Belgium 4-1 in of their opening game. But as is often the case when you see an eyebrow-raising result like that opener, reality can quickly set in and temper expectations.

The Netherlands, however, managed to win their second game against Wales, but not without a high blood pressure drama. Overall the match was played very evenly, with both teams trading blows within minutes of the final as Wales equalized in the 90+2′ to see the Netherlands hit back less than two minutes later to steal the late victory.

The concern, however, is with their defense as they rarely keep clean sheets against quality opponents. In their last eight games against good teams such as Wales, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Norway (twice), Turkey and the Czech Republic, they have only kept one White paper.

Their method of winning usually comes from the attacking side of the ball by simply getting past their opponents and taking risks even if it makes them vulnerable at times. But the question is whether they can score enough to win by more than one goal against a solid defensive team.

Netherlands vs Poland Betting Overview

The best time to play in a team is after an outlier result as we saw in Poland’s embarrassing loss to Belgium. If these teams play each other ten times, there is very little chance that they will lose again by three goals. Poland will be focusing on strengthening their defense for this game and I find it extremely unlikely that the Netherlands will score three or four goals against a defense that has only conceded as many twice in 39 matches. I’m just going to tone down the overreaction and get ahead of Poland +1.25 (-105).
