Obituary of Jolanta Armstrong (1943 – 2021) – Erie, PA


Jolanta Kusiowski Armstrong, 78, a resident of Harborcreek Township. and formerly Fredonia, OR, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at UPMC Hamot Hospital. She was born in Nazi-occupied Poland on June 8, 1943, daughter of the late Walter and Katherine (Dzieuba) Kusiowski. In 1949, alongside her mother, Yolanta immigrated to the United States to find her father.
Jolanta was a graduate of Brocton HS where she was an accomplished clarinetist in the marching band. Having been noted for her great musical abilities, she was selected to participate in the NY All-State Symphonic Band in 1959 and 1960 and also received music scholarships at the Chautauqua Institution. Yolanta then studied at SUNY in Fredonia where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. It is during one of her chemistry lessons that she will meet her darling and future husband, John.
Jolanta was a career US Navy reservist, having served for 20 years before her retirement as chief petty officer. Additionally, she was employed as an analytical chemist by Oregon-based Intel for 17 years before retiring from the company. She had previously been employed by Tektronix in Oregon and Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey. After her retirement, Yolanta took great pride in being a meticulous housewife who used her analytical skills to run a smooth and efficient household.
A music lover all her life, Yolanta also loved all animals and particularly loved taking care of her cats. Additionally, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed planning landscaping projects to work on with her brother George, who lived with her for many years. Always oriented towards community service, she had served as a part-time EMT with her husband for many years and had also attended the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, George Kusiowski, who died just two days before Jolanta.
Survivors include her beloved husband of nearly 57 years, John Armstrong, whom she married on December 26, 1964; one brother, Thomas Kusiowski (Georgia); a dear niece, Christine as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are warmly invited to call Dusckas-Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, 5151 Buffalo Rd. (At Hannon Rd. In Harborcreek Twp.) Today (Sunday, December 19) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. h where a joint visit will take place for Jolanta and her brother, George. A funeral service for Jolanta and George will be held on Tuesday, December 21 at South Harborcreek Cemetery at 11 a.m. Commemorative contributions may be awarded to any animal welfare institution of the donor’s choice.
