Opening of the hotel, restaurant-bar at the Capital One Center

(Update at 7:30 p.m.) The development of the Capital One Center in Tysons is intensifying with accommodation and catering.

The Watermark Hotel, which has 300 deluxe rooms, will open tomorrow (Tuesday) and the Wren, a Japanese-American bar and small plate restaurant, will open on Friday, September 24, said Tara McNamara, director of sales for the hotel.

“Our inspiration is derived from ‘izakaya’, the Japanese concept of having a place to meet to relax and chat while enjoying great food and drink,” Chef Yo Matsuzaki said in a press release.

The restaurant menu includes oysters, sashimi, miniature beetroot salad with yuzu and pistachio vinaigrette and grilled Black Angus rib eye, all prepared in front of guests. It will be open to the public from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with the bar open from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The Wren is located on the 11th floor near the hotel lobby, overlooking part of Tysons as well as The Perch, the leisure area including a park, brewery and other amenities which opened in late August. The park is located above Capital One Hall, a new performance hall that opened on October 1 with Josh Groban.

Last weekend, a three-day festival showcased the amenities of the sky park. Superheroes rappelled down one side of the hotel to wash the windows of the event.

Take-out options in the facades of food trucks are expected to be added by The Perch next spring in a part of the roof that construction crews are still preparing.

Capital One Financial owns The Watermark Hotel and kicks off its debut with rooms for employees as the company has a back-to-work policy in November that keeps telecommuting in place on Mondays and Fridays.

The hotel’s suites feature works by local artists that adorn everything from soap dishes to paintings on sponge wallpaper.

Jonathan Lee of the BF Saul Company Hospitality Group, which operates the hotel, explained to visitors how Capital One executives tested which mattresses to choose for the hotel.

One was a base model, another was the one used at the Ritz, and a third was ultra luxurious: Without knowing which was which, executives’ preferences were focused on one choice, Lee said, pushing the mattress budget up. .

A spokesperson for the Capital One Center later denied that executives tested the hotel’s mattresses, calling the account inaccurate.
