Summary of the program:

Project HOPE provides humanitarian assistance to displaced and conflict-affected people across Ukraine, as well as support to refugees in Poland, Romania and Moldova. The portfolio in Ukraine focuses on health, protection and WASH programs in partnership with two local NGOs, with private funding and support from USAID/BHA.

This position will be based in Odessa, Ukraine. Local nationals only

POSITION SUMMARY:

PsychologistThe main role of is to serve as the general point of contact for all questions relating to the interventions of the HOPE project in the designated regions of Ukraine related to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of people with mental, emotional, behavioural, educational and developmental.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the project team in the development and implementation of psychosocial support activities.
  • Implement the protocol on sexual gender-based violence (SGBV), identify potential victims of SGBV and refer them to available services.
  • Assist and train staff members and resourceful individuals whenever necessary in order to expand the scope of SM activities.
  • Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential.
  • Map existing national and humanitarian mental health and psychosocial support services that are accessible to vulnerable populations. Develop and maintain an effective referral system for social and mental health services in coordination with other government agencies and/or partners.
  • Identification and care of children and adults in need of mental health and psychosocial support (MSPSS).
  • Perform psychological assessments, tests and assessments and provide diagnosis.
  • Refer beneficiaries to other support services, depending on the specific needs identified and the range of services available.
  • Ensure the implementation and monitoring of all activities planned by the project in the targeted areas (active targeting, community awareness, etc.) and in general of the activities of the organization in the project implementation areas.
  • Complete the identification and monitoring work tools: surveys and monitoring sheets, etc.
  • Ensure the sharing of detailed information on the evolution of the activities under his responsibility whenever requested.
  • Write periodic activity reports.
  • Report, document and track problem cases on a case-by-case basis in collaboration with project team members.
  • Promote knowledge of child rights, child protection and gender issues among beneficiaries and other stakeholders.
  • Other assigned duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology.
  • 3-5 years of relevant and progressive experience as a psychologist, including 2+ years of experience in developing countries or in crisis situations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of child protection and rights, human rights, gender and sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Strong working knowledge of diagnostic techniques and a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Good knowledge of evaluation techniques.
  • Excellent of the existing state and legal mechanisms for the protection of human rights in Ukraine.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be extremely flexible and have the ability to deal with stressful situations.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions independently.
  • Good knowledge of the context and dynamics of disadvantaged neighborhoods in Ukraine.
  • Fluent in English and local language (Ukrainian).
  • Essential computer skills (word, excel and internet).
