POLAND — Officials from Regional School Unit 16 will hold a district-wide meeting on Tuesday to review the nearly $25.9 million budget for 2023 and have district residents vote on the spending package.
The meeting and vote will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Polish Regional High School for residents of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland. There are 15 articles on the budgetary mandate.
The budget passed by the District Board of Directors in April is an increase of $1.63 million, or 6.74 percent, from the current year’s $24.25 million.
Whatever amount of the budget is agreed upon on Tuesday evening, it will be presented for a yes or no validation vote in the polling stations of the three cities on June 14.
The Regular Education budget line alone increased by more than $1 million, or 10.93% more than this year’s expenditures.
A 10.33% increase of over $222,000 is proposed in the student and staff support budget, primarily due to increases of $118,611 in health services and $69,327 in technology.
Transportation costs are expected to increase by $134,688, an increase of 7.77%.
If the budget is adopted as is, the impact of the property tax on the three communities would be as follows:
Mechanic Falls: An increase of $82,007 which represents an additional $66 per $100,000 of property assessment.
Minot: an increase of $112,938 which represents an additional $76 per $100,000 of property assessment.
Poland: An increase of $86,549 which represents an additional $20 per $100,000 of property assessment.
