Scarborough’s ‘most dangerous’ hotel with rooms so ‘filthy’ they rival the Grand


There have been countless bad reviews of the Grand Hotel in Scarborough in recent months, but another hotel in the city – also owned by Britannia Hotels – has also been announced.

The Royal Hotel on rue Saint-Nicolas has failed to impress its guests.

Poor customer service, “dirty” hotel rooms with “blood on the shower curtains” and “hair on the bathroom floor” are just a few of the complaints listed by those who claim to have stayed there .

Similar to the Grand Hotel, guests have expressed frustration with management’s lack of action after pointing out flaws they say they found in their rooms.

A disgruntled TripAdvisor reviewer said he requested a room exchange due to the heat, but only received a new room after threatening to ask for a refund.

“It was 28 degrees, in a room with so many windows it was basically a greenhouse,” the guest wrote.

“Of the five sash windows, only one opened three inches.

“We requested a room change which only took place after requesting a refund.”

Unfortunately, according to the customer, it only got worse as the new room was “disgusting, dirty and poorly maintained”.

“There was dried food on a door frame, evidence of something spilled on two walls, holes in the walls and ceiling and a spill on the carpet,” the guest said.

“The bathroom switches were dirty. I could go on, but never took any pictures to support the rest.”

Other guests shared similar experiences and said they would not recommend this “unsafe” hotel to parents.

“Probably the worst and most dangerous hotel I have ever stayed in. It should be closed, ”said one reviewer.

“Definitely don’t stay here if you have kids. Aside from things like unsafe floor tiles in the bathroom (kept in place and covered with duct tape as there were sharp edges), but also the wardrobe kept falling.

“The place is tired, dirty (like dirt infection levels) and absolutely horrible. Staff don’t care, management is non-existent. This place needs to shut down ASAP.”

Echoing their feelings, another guest said: “I paid £ 219 for a family room for 4 with sea view, we got a room with two single beds and a hard leather sofa bed, the room was not hygienic and dirty blood on the shower curtain scum all over the tub and shower, the window latch was broken that my 4 year old kept trying to open.

“Outside the widow’s rim there were beer cans and take out boxes strewn all over the place, the front desk staff were really rude when I brought up, we were given the wrong room, it was not what I paid for.

“The worst hotel I have ever stayed in, it must be closed, it is dirty and dangerous.”

Others said they found blood stains on their towels and pubic hair in the bath.

“At first glance the room looked clean, but when we started to unpack our luggage we realized the tub had funny stains and pubic hair and the towels had blood stains,” he said. declared a guest.

“A dirty sock stuffed into the pillow in the street by previous guests, hair on the bathroom floor, no toilet paper, an alarm hanging from the ceiling… the list goes on!

“I went to the front desk and was given an attitude like it was like ‘so what’.

“The entertainment advertised is very poor and only lasts about an hour. Someone works behind the bar, so a long wait sometimes.”

But some customers were more than happy with the hotel and the service provided.

A review, left on October 7th, said, “It was a very nice place to stay. The rooms were nice and clean, as was the rest of the hotel.”

The reviewer also praised the hotel staff, pointing out their decisive actions in a recent bomb threat at the nearby Grand Hotel.
