Six Senses Fiji sold to Sequitur Resorts by JLL Hotels and Hospitality

Leading restructuring experts Vaughan Strawbridge and David McGrath of FTI Consulting announce the completion of the sale of Six Senses Fiji, one of Fiji’s premier five-star luxury resorts. The sale was exclusively managed by Nick Thompson (New Zealand) and Peter Harper (Australia) of JLL Hotels and Hospitality Brokers, following a successful restructuring and relaunch led by FTI Consulting.

The future of Six Senses Fiji is assured thanks to its new owner, Sequitur Resorts, and will be operated by mainly local Fijian personnel, employing over 130 people. The resort restarted its premium guest experience on April 1 with all previous reservations transferred and honoured.

Vaughan Strawbridge of FTI Consulting said “After being closed for over two years, I am thrilled that Six Senses Fiji has reopened to guests and rehired a full team. It was an amazing effort by management and staff to reopen the resort after being closed. for 2 years they did an amazing job”

“The restructuring of Six Senses Fiji is a great example of how innovative thinking can restore a tourism business to full health after this period of turbulent COVID-19 crisis. Six Senses Fiji is now fully focused on providing a premium experience to its customers and has a bright future, backed by a strong financial structure and an extremely dedicated owner.

JLL’s Nick Thompson said “The sale demonstrates the revitalization of tourism investment in the Pacific. The market reacted to reinvigorated resort activity in a premier tourist destination. The resort was sold unconditionally after just one month on the market.”

“For more than two years, the tourism industry has been on hold. This major sale shows that companies willing to adapt can have a bright future. We ran an all-encompassing, all-encompassing campaign, but were still impressed with the huge interest we received.

“Optimism around the removal of border restrictions and a return to tourism has started to boost activity and investors don’t want to miss the opportunity. This unwavering demand means that sellers of hotel and hotel assets in Asia Pacific are receiving similar returns to pre-pandemic.

Six Senses Fiji Resort, completed in 2018, is a stunning 24-villa luxury resort located on the west coast of Malolo Island in the Mamanuca Islands. Malolo Island is considered one of the main islands of Fiji, given the ease of access from Viti Levu, its high quality land and sea environment and the precedent set by the existing standard of accommodation.

Fiji is a world famous destination with direct flights from many international destinations including Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Visitor arrivals have grown significantly from 2000 to 2019, rising from 300,000 per year to 900,000.

FTI Consulting has established a strong restructuring practice in the region over the past few years.
