This photo taken Sunday July 31, 2022 shows the site of a future Club Med hotel at the Snowbasin ski resort near Huntsville. While construction of the new Club Med Resort at Snowbasin has yet to begin, the old base lodge has been demolished and a cell tower has been erected on the site. Preliminary surveying and pre-construction work is underway with Club Med scheduled to open in late 2024.

As the ski season slowly approaches, officials at the Snowbasin resort near Huntsville have their eyes on another not-too-distant date.

As announced last year, Club Med is building overnight accommodations at Snowbasin. Club Med senior vice president of development Eileen Kett said the hotel has a targeted opening date of December 2024 to early 2025.

The Club Med hotel is considered one of the biggest changes ever to the Olympic-quality ski resort, which hasn’t offered mountain accommodation in 82 years.

Snowbasin, one of the nation’s oldest operating ski areas, is looking for a partner to bring its first lodging experience to the resort since 2011, when the resort received rights from Weber County, according to Snowbasin’s general manager. , Davy Ratchford.

Ratchford said Club Med was the perfect partner, as the international travel and tourism company offers week-long vacations, helping to keep rooms filled and traffic to a minimum. Year-round overnight accommodation will occupy approximately 9 acres of slopeside space in and around the Old Day Lodge site, which has been demolished to make way for the 300-room hotel.

These plans show the proposed long-term development envisioned by Snowbasin officials around Earl’s Lodge, the resort’s main gathering place. Earl’s Lodge is shown on the right side of the proposed development group shown in the middle of the plans. The proposed Club Med resort is shown at the top right of the plans.

“I’m very excited for people to see this amazing property when it’s finished,” Ratchford said.

Ratchford, who said he has visited numerous Club Med destinations in Europe, praised the company’s attention to detail, service and on-site employee accommodation.

The design and planning processes are underway for the future Club Med at Snowbasin following community feedback received during a series of open houses last September, which Ratchford described as “superb”.

All Club Med hotels would be designed and built to be certified in accordance with the Building Research Establishment’s environmental assessment methodology, as well as to operate under Green Globe certification, which recognizes sustainable tourism.

“The community can expect an incredible local partner at Club Med,” Ratchford said.

Additional features coming to Snowbasin in 2024 include a new Ridgeline chairlift, beginner terrain, and parking. Construction of a resort village is expected to begin in 2025, with retail stores, residential housing and resort amenities.

East West Partners, a Park City-based hill station developer, and Ecosign, an international planning firm, are working with Snowbasin to develop its future.
